PUBLIC SAFETY NOTICE !!
TESTING OF BACKFLOW PREVENTION DEVICE
Dear Brentwood Water Customer:
The City of Brentwood is obliged to enforce an important State of Tennessee mandate related to the safety of our public water supply. The program is designed to prevent possible contamination of the public water supply through the use of a backflow prevention or cross connection control devices. This plumbing device protects water supplies that are connected to other systems such as irrigation systems and fire suppression systems which may hold contaminated water of extended time periods. If you have an irrigation system, a fire suppression system, or if you are a commercial operation, you are obliged under state and municipal law to participate in the annual testing.
Section 70-178 of the Brentwood Municipal Code requires that all backflow devices be inspected and tested annually by a state certified tester. All test results are to be recorded on official test reports, which are available at the Brentwood Codes Department. Please verify that any tester that you hire to provide testing services meets the City’s eligibility requirements. Test reports can not be accepted from uncertified testers.
The tester is responsible for reporting reliable information. However, it is your responsibility as the water customer to ensure that the device is tested, and that the results are submitted to the Brentwood Codes Department. Commercial and residential test results are to be turned in to the Codes Department no later than June 30, 2008 to assure continued water service.
Please be advised that unless you satisfy the requirements of the City of Brentwood’s Cross-Connection Control Program before June 30th, you will be charged a $100.00 administrative late fee. In addition, the City will hire a certified tester who will complete the required test at the location of the violation. The cost of this required test will be an additional charge on the offending customer’s water bill.
Please keep the costs of local government at a minimum, and address the required testing as soon as possible. If you find this notification in error, or if you have any additional questions regarding the testing of your backflow device, do not hesitate to call the Brentwood Planning & Codes Department at (615) 371-7011.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.
