Citizen’s Police Academy
The Brentwood Police Department conducts a Citizen Police Academy during the spring of each year. The Citizens Police Academy meets on Thursday evenings for 11 weeks for three hours each night. The academy is designed to offer the citizens an explanation on how the police department functions and operates on a daily basis. The academy covers the following areas:
1. Department Organization 2. National Accreditation 3. Internal Affairs and Administrative Complaints 4. Use of Force 5. ASP Baton and Chemical Weapons 6. Testing/Selection/Hiring and Training of Officers 7. Field Training Program 8. Patrol Operations 9. DARE and Community Programs 10. Traffic Enforcement/Accident Investigation and DUI 11. Drug Task Force 12. Criminal Investigations Division 13. Firearms 14. Communications 15. Terrorist Threat
The students will be able to participate in practical exercises, which include traffic stops, building searches, firearms familiarization among others.
To Apply you must be 21 years of age or older, have no felony convictions, be a resident of the City of Brentwood or employed within the City of Brentwood and agree to a limited background check.
