Brentwood Library Holds 6th Annual Scholastic Chess
Tournament
70+ young chess players battled it out at the 6th Annual
Brentwood Library Scholastic Chess Tournament. The tournament
consisted of two divisions: Advanced, and Beginners. This is the
only tournament in Tennessee with a section for a child’s first
tournament. The age range on Saturday was 6 to 15. The Brentwood
Library tournament is always the first local tournament of the year
making a great opportunity for players to get ready for the rated
tournament season.
Winners of the Rated Division were Nicholas Tomlin, first
place; Nathaniel True, second place; Neil Zheng, third place. Winners
of the Unrated Division were Reed Boegar, first place; Joon Kwon,
second place; Vincent Zheng, third place.

The Brentwood Library hosts a monthly chess club which
meets the last Friday of each month from 4:30-6:00 p.m. All ages and
skill levels are welcome to participate! Dr. James Lech, Director of
the Nashville Chess Center is on-site to teach beginning, intermediate
and advanced strategies. This is a wonderful opportunity to enhance
your skills, develop new ones, or to simply enjoy playing a social
game of chess. Dr. Lech typically provides two lessons for the club:
one for beginners, and a more advanced lesson for repeat attendees.
For more information on participating in the chess club call Robyn
Zandi, Brentwood Library Program Coordinator at 371-0090 ext. 851 or
