City Encourages Residents to Register for Emergency Notification System
Registration of Mobile and VoIP Numbers Important for Notification System
Posted Date: 12/15/2009

With so many people switching from traditional landline telephones to cell, wireless and Voice over Internet (VoIP) phones, the collection of 911 data is growing increasingly difficult. The City of Brentwood is encouraging local residents to voluntarily provide emergency notification phone numbers in order to expand the effectiveness of our REVERSE 911 Emergency Notification System. The Emergency Notification System is a mapping software system that will notify citizens of emergencies or other important information in your area. This might be something as simple as a message about water system repair work or recent police activity in your neighborhood or  critical emergencies like amber alerts or evacuations.

Currently, all hardwired landline phones are automatically programmed in the REVERSE 911 system.  However, mobile and VoIP phones are not included in the notification system since they are not tied directly to a street address.  For residents who want to have their mobile or VoIP phone included in the emergency notifications system, the City is offering a voluntary registration option.  As part of this option, residents will be asked to provide additional telephone contact information as it relates to your home address.
