David O’Neil is the Captain of the Field Operations Division. The 40 employees of the Field Operations Division encompass Uniformed Patrol, Directed Enforcement, Field Training, and Fleet Services. Captain O’Neil started his law enforcement career in 1991. He has held the positions of Officer, Corporal, Detective, Lieutenant and Captain. Captain O’Neil was the Brentwood Police Department’s first canine handler. He and drug detection canine Alex, worked together for four years. Captain O’Neil holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Management from Trevecca University and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Nashville School of Law. He is admitted to the Tennessee Bar and the Bar of the United States Supreme Court. He is a member of the Williamson County Bar Association, the Tennessee Bar Association, the John Marshall American Inn of Court, and the International Association of Chiefs of Police. In addition to his role as Field operations Captain, he serves as special prosecutor for the 21st Judicial District Attorney’s Office and is an adjunct professor at Trevecca University teaching constitutional and criminal law.
