OVERDUE NOTICES AND COLLECTIONS

The Brentwood Library contracts with a collection agency to assist in recovering long-overdue library materials and unpaid fines.

  • The Brentwood Library is committed to providing materials and services that meet patron needs.

  • Unreturned books, videos, DVDs, CDs, and other materials are not available for other patrons to use or check out, and replacing lost materials is costly.

  • The time and money that staff members spend trying to recover overdue, lost, and damaged items from a few borrowers takes away services from the rest of the patrons.

  • To protect taxpayer dollars and the patrons as a whole, the library must make every effort to recover lost materials and overdue costs.

All unresolved accounts over $20 will be turned over to Unique Management Services, Inc. after 45 days. We attempt to notify a patron before the account is referred to the agency, but it is the patron’s responsibility to keep all contact information on his/her account updated. We do not have the resources to track down new addresses. If an account remains in collections for 120 days, it will be credit reported and will stay on the credit records for up to seven years.

If an account is referred to collections, a nonrefundable service charge of $10.00 will be added to the balance.

Please help us to serve all library patrons by returning overdue materials today.
