Suzanne has worked for over 25 years as a graphic artist and photo-retouch artist in the publishing industry. She is originally from Atlanta and studied fine arts at the University of Georgia in addition to a technical course in Commercial Art. She has attended demonstrations and international seminars with such notable Masters as Richard Schmid, Daniel Greene and Raymond Everett Kinstler. CROCHET CLASS

Beginners Class

Three Consecutive Thursdays, September 4, 11, 18

Two Sessions: 12:30-1:30 p.m. or 2:00-3:00 p.m.

Class Fee: $15.00

Crocheting will give you a lifetime of pleasure and relaxation. You’ll learn the chain stitch, and single and double crochet. A supply list will be provided upon registration. KNITTING CLASS

RETIREMENT PLANNING

These free seminars begin at 6:30 p.m. on September 23, October 7, and November 18.

The library has partnered with TrustCore to offer a series of free retirement planning seminars this fall.
A panel of credentialed, experienced financial planners will address financial planning and retirement issues and answer your questions. You will discover whether or not your finances are properly positioned now and what changes you should consider in the coming years.

Every week will bring us more awareness of the choices we can make to create a more fulfilling and healthy life for ourselves.

The Secret

Farm Animals and Cheese Making

SLR PHOTOGRAPHY CLASSES

Conquering Digital Phobias – Thursday, September 18 – 6:30- 8:30 p.m.

For those of you who can't understand your camera or its manual, I will explain beginning digital terminology as well as photographic terminology. As a class, we will go thru the basic operation of the camera, and how to use various modes. You must bring your camera, manual and fresh batteries to class! Class Fee $15.00

Creating Properly Exposed Images – Thursday, September 25– 6:30- 8:30 p.m.

We will go beyond the program modes on your camera and learn how to improve difficult shooting situations. Topics covered will be exposure compensation, ISO sensitivity, flash, white balance, histograms, etc… We will go outside and test our new found skills. Class Fee $15.00

Compositional Techniques – Thursday, October 2 – 6:30- 8:30 p.m.

Now that we have mastered the camera, we will discuss how to compose better pictures. We will examine other photographers’ work and go outside and make great images for next week’s class. Class Fee $15.00

Getting Great Images from Your Camera - Thursday, October 9 – 6:30- 8:30 p.m.

This class focuses on getting your images from your camera to your Windows computer. We will cover image file sizes, archiving your photos, and e-mailing photos to friends. Laptop computers are welcome. We will also discuss Photoshop Elements and other image enhancing software to improve your photos. Class Fee $15.00

LAW TALK

THE LEGAL SYSTEM

From torts to crimes, learn the ins and outs of the court system from the perspective of a party, judge and lawyer.  You will gain rare access to the judicial system and come away feeling that you at least know how the legal system operates on a day-to-day basis.  We will remove the mystique and show you how the legal system functions.

SCAMMED?

Did it ever sound too good to be true? Has that smiling, congenial person ever convinced you to buy something and never delivered? We will outline your legal options under the Consumer Protection Act, show you what to do after you've been "fleeced", and teach you how to avoid scams.

LIBRARY DATABASE CLASS

Come see why the library databases are even better than Google.  Get an overview of online services the library provides from business resources, health information to homework help.  Class is offered the third Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. and the third Friday of the month at 3:00 p.m.  Class will cover how to access online resources from home, which ones to use in certain situations, and search tips.  To register call 371-0090, ext. 851 or click on the following link Friday, August 15 at 3:00 p.m.. or Wednesday, August 20 at 7:00 p.m. and complete the registration form.

DOWNLOADING AUDIO BOOKS

Connect to the library’s website and learn to download books to your computer and sync to your MP3 player.  Class is offered twice a month. You must bring your library card to this class.  If available bring a Windows compatible MP3 player and cord.  Sorry, no iPods.  Registration Required. STITCHING FOR CHARITY

CALLING ALL KNITTERS AND CROCHETERS!  Join us on the 3rd Tuesday of the month for coffee, conversation and fun as we knit and crochet lap blankets for Vanderbilt Cancer Center.  Bring your knitting needles and crochet hooks...we'll provide the yarn.  If you have any questions, please call Robyn Zandi, Library Program Coordinator at 371-0090 ext. 851 or email zandir@brentwood-tn.org.

CHESS CLUB

Typically meets the last Friday of the month – All ages and skill levels welcome! Onsite chess coach teaches beginning, intermediate and advance strategies. Boards are provided, no registration necessary. Upcoming meeting date:  August 15, September 26, October 24 and November 21. (please note...dates are subject to change)

Awards Ceremony: 2:15 p.m.

$5.00 entry fee

This is an unrated tournament and makes for a great “first” tournament experience as players will be instructed on complete tournament play before clock starts. It is also a great tournament for rated players who are looking for an opportunity for tournament practice before the rated season begins. The tournament will be divided into two divisions: Rated, and Unrated. Prizes: Bookstore gift cards for top three individuals in each division.
